Officially Rioja but shows no resemblance to the standard style – this is a garnacha fruit bomb, not a savoury, elegant tempranillo. Rioja Baja, where the grapes come from is closer to Navarra both in terms of climate and varietal selection than to the „real” Rioja (Alta & Alavesa). Mikor András barátommal szokásos egy hetes hazalátogatásáról értekeztünk, bevallom, egy kicsit átsiklottam az információ felett, hogy a spanyol vörösbor mellé holmi helyi fehérborokat is hoz a tervezett kóstolóra (amikor jön, többnyire iszunk). Luxemburgi bortermelés, ugyan már, nyilván nem véletlenül nem hallottam még róla. Ráadásul szürkebaráttal foglalkoznak, ezt nem lehet komolyan venni. A márciusi Decanter mencía-tesztjének győztes bora. Minthogy a másik 87 versenyzőt nem kóstoltam, így a rábólintás részemről röhejesen megalapozatlan, de ez az a ritka eset, amikor szemrebbenés nélkül elhiszem, hogy igazuk van (a tavalyi Wine Spectator Top 100-ban a 35. helyen végzett és mások sem fukarkodtak az elismeréssel). Winner of the latest Decanter mencía panel test (March 2019 issue). Not having tasted the other 88 contestants, my approval is hilariously unfounded but this time I can easily believe that it’s the best (having tasted quite a few panel test winners over the years this is the exception rather than the rule). The previous vintage of this wine was one of my favourite Hungarian whites in 2018.
