Last year I asked Bernhard Ott why he has turned his back on Qvevre which I considered to be a unique and highly satisfying exploration of the soul and core of grüner veltliner. He said that the ancient technique of whole bunch fermentation and long ageing in amphorae dug into the ground had a homogenizing effect erasing the elusive terroir features and at the present stage of his learning curve he could see nothing more important than to produce elegant, transparent wines able to reflect the individuality of his vineyards. Bár volt időszak, amikor úgy tűnt, hogy Robert Parker ördögi tervét valóra váltva Michel Rolland visszafordíthatatlanul globalizálja és uniformizálja a borvilágot, én ritkán találkoztam az általa készített vagy a receptjét követő borokkal. Though there might have been a time when the prospect of Michel Rolland carrying out Robert Parker’s diabolic plans to globalize and homogenize the world of wine seemed real I for one have hardly ever tasted wines made by him or made to conform to his recipe. However there is one wine that has his name written all over it and I’ve been following ever since it was first introduced in Hungary. Bordeaux képekben II.: Pauillac

Nevezzük nyilvánvalónak a borstílusbeli különbséget a bordeaux-i bal- és jobbpart között. Mint vidék, világok választják el egymástól a kettőt, ez a helyszínen vágja igazán mellbe az embert. A Medoc már-már szürreális látvány, tekintve, hogy a világ legértékesebb borainak egy jó része innen kerül ki: mintha a mi Alföldünket teleszórták volna kaviccsal, és valamiféle bolond ötlettől vezérelve még szőlővel is sűrűn telerakták volna. Persze a klíma gyökeresen más, atlanti, esős, gyorsan változó idővel, ugyanakkor kevesebb szélsőséggel.

Stílusos – Chateau de Fonbel 2015 St-Émilion

Jó házból, jó területről, jó évjáratból származó merlot még éppen kiköhöghető áron, de már biztos távolságban a bizonytalanságtól. A tulajdonos Alain Vauthier, a Ch Ausone társtulajdonosa, a terület St-Émilion (l. Figeac vagy Cheval Blanc), az évjárat 2015, 2010 óta az egyetlen „évszázad évjárata”, az ár tízezer forint. Miután a Ch Pey la Tour aktuális évjárata bukta a legolcsóbb szemléltető anyag a „Bordeaux for Dummies” tanfolyamhoz címet, a megüresedett posztra a Fonbel is lehetséges pályázó. Stylish – Ch de Fonbel 2015 St-Émilion

A merlot of good provenance, from a good vintage, at just about affordable price but safely above the danger zone. The owner is Alain Vauthier of Ch Ausone fame, the region is St-Émilion, the vintage is the first „vintage of the century” since 2010, the price is around €30. With the 2016 Ch Pey la Tour failing to cut the mustard and thus losing the title of the cheapest visual aid for „Bordeaux for Dummies” courses, Fonbel is a good candidate to fill the vacancy.
