Engem irritál ez a nagy haptákban állás Burgundia előtt. Egyrészt mert a borok, amelyek a haptákba vágódást indokolttá tehetnék, ritkán kötnek ki az én poharamban. Másrészt, kezdem unni, hogy minden második borvidék a dűlőosztályozásban és a parcellapalackozásban látja az üdvözülés útját. Ugyanakkor a lelkem mélyén érzem, hogy a jó burgundinál nincs jobb. Amikor próbáltam értelmezni azt az érzést, hogy ez a bor üres, először arra gondoltam, hogy vagy a terroir maradt ki belőle vagy a koncepció. Aztán arra, hogy esetleg egyik sem, csak mindkettő lapos. When I first tried to rationalize my impression of this wine being an empty shell, I thought either terroir or concept must have gone AWOL. Then I thought maybe none of them are missing, it’s just that they are both nondescript. I’m as happy as the next guy to find a good wine at a reasonable price. However once in a blue moon the wine is more than good and the price is less than reasonable and this is when my happiness gets laced with remorse: I feel sorry for the winemaker, as if the world has let him/her down by failing to appreciate their achievements. Lehetnek ennél jobb, nagyobb, fontosabb furmintok, nekem azonban ez a kedvencem az elmúlt néhány év kínálatából. Annyira megfogott, hogy előhívtam a gondolatkísérleti mérleget, és örömmel állapítottam meg, hogy a furmint akár fel is zárkózhat a most életük formáját futó második ligás fajták mellé (albarino, godello, vermentino, falanghina, carricante és társaik). For all I know there may be better, bigger, more important furmints around but this is certainly the one I enjoyed the most in recent years. In fact I’m starting to believe that dry furmint has got the potential to stand up to the in-form second-tier whites of today (albarino, godello, vermentino, falanghina, carricante and the likes). Az évjárattal és a Furmint-Hárslevelűvel kapcsolatos pozitív élmények után hajtott a kíváncsiság, hogy a megfizethetetlen dűlős furmintok majdnem megfizethető változata milyen lehet. Mindig veszélyes dolog egyetlen borból, egyetlen palackból nagyívű következtetéseket levonni – mentségemre szóljon, a profik egy (kiköpött) kortyból is bátran extrapolálnak -, de ezúttal minden egyes mintavételnél úgy éreztem, hogy ez az igazi tokaji furmint. Favourable experiences with the vintage in Tokaj and more specifically with the 2017 Homonna Furmint-Hárslevelű piqued my curiosity and I was eager to find out what the more affordable little brother of the single vineyard bottlings was like. It’s never a good idea to make sweeping generalizations based on just one wine, or even worse, on just one bottle but whenever I fall into this trap I take heart from the fact that wine professionals base their judgements on a tablespoon of wine not even swallowed. Anyway, each time I returned to this wine my belief got firmer that this is the real Tokaj furmint. And I’m not going to take that back just because it is not even pure furmint. Mérész Sándor lehet az első, akinek sikerült itthon a chardonnay-t megfejtenie. Legalábbis erre utal, hogy zsinórban ez a harmadik évjárat, amikor az Etyeki Kúria chardonnay-ja nemzetközi szinten is értelmezhető. 2017 nyarán ugyan egymást érték a hőhullámok, de az etyeki tőkéken és borászon nem tudtak kifogni; az egyensúly gyakorlatilag tökéletes és az aromák intenzitását és mélységét sem érheti panasz. Chardonnay-ban soha nem fogjuk a passzátszelet fújni, de legalább mi vegyük észre, hogy itt valami váratlanul szép született. Continue reading “Kismester remekműve – Etyeki Kúria Chardonnay 2017”
